What we Do
“From “Tree to Table” - we repurpose wood to turn it into heirloom quality pieces you’ll cherish.”
With a passion for working with hands and turning a tree into a work of art, we take great pride in the level of detail and finish that we use. We bring a vast knowledge and education of wood varietals, methods, incredible workmanship and skill to every project. Whether it’s for your home or a commercial space - we offer custom work from furniture, to fixtures and construction elements such as countertops, flooring and shelves. We can use your wood or ours. We also are the “farm to table” of furniture - we cut, mill, dry and build in-house. Our goal is to create work that people are proud of and talk about, that is quality built to last for generations - we want our projects to make an impact on the people that hire us.
““Jon’s passion for trees, wood and building is evident from the first time you speak with him.””
From the beginning…
Jon McDow is a North Carolina native that grew up working with his hands and made his way to the coast for college. After several years of working for an environmental company, Jon developed a love for wood and decided to start saving to start a business. He opened shop with Coastal Live Edge in his detached garage in 2011 with a passion for saving trees from the landfill and creating things. Over the years, he bought a manual sawmill and built a solar dry kiln at his home and focused on learning as much as he could about trees - all the different varieties and the ins and outs of how they develop, dry, what they’re good for and not good for. He honed his skills in sawing, milling, and drying as well as building and design.
By 2018, Jon had grown the business and had a nice following of residential clients as well as commercial clients and builders that used him regularly. He branched out and moved his shop to Kure Beach, NC and brought on his first employee.
In 2019, he was nominated for Wilmington Business Journal’s MADE Awards and was a winner for the Category. He had a website made and entered his first trade show with this event where he made some great connections that he still works with today. He knew he was already outgrowing his shop in Kure Beach and bought a 2 acre piece of land in Burgaw, NC.
Over the course of the next year, he prepared the land, built a 1600 sf workshop, shed for his upgraded Woodmizer hydraulic sawmill and wood drying shed. He opened the doors and started working at the new shop in June, 2020.
Since then, the company has exponentially increased their talent, volume, and efficiency. They’ve added team members, a Dehimidifying Kiln and an I-Dry Vacuum Kiln, and are continually seeking new equipment and ways that will increase their efficiency and quality..
Jon is hardworking, passionate, and determined and he has built a team that is the same. With his creative eye, attention to detail, and a heart for helping others - he tends to make friends, not just clients.
